Wenqing Zhao 

I am an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Baruch College, City University of New York (CUNY).

I work at the intersection of mind and ethics in early Chinese thought, with a particular focus on the nature and role of emotion. I also work on Chinese political philosophy and bioethics. My broader aim is to bring Chinese philosophical resources into sustained conversation with contemporary philosophical questions and debates.

I earned my Ph.D. from the City University of Hong Kong and held a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University before joining Baruch. I have received research support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the John Templeton Foundation.

My name, Wenqing, is pronounced roughly “Wen-ching.” In Chinese, it can be read as meaning something like “a clearly written article.”
